Following a 12 week selection process we were appointed by Land Securities as Architectural Masterplanners for the first third of this 485 Hectare former quarry in Kent.
Collaborating with two other architectural firms we developed a masterplan centred around ‘sense of place’ with the character of each area deriving from its orientation, topography and location. A holistic and wide-ranging environmental strategy was also developed for both the buildings and the site itself to make the scheme a leading example of a sustainable community and a model for future large scale developments of this type.
The team also carried out a study of European space standards and typologies, and a thorough review of current housing legislation. This concluded with the design of a range of appropriate housing typologies and a series of recommendations for plot development within the context of the wider plan.
